The following message from the BCVANBIRDS group, mainly about birding
at Point Roberts (Whatcom Co.), may be of interest to some of you.

Subject: [bcvanbirds] Point Roberts to Brunswick Point Saturday

A few hours at Lighthouse Park and Lily Point trying to make up being
snowed out from Viveka Ohman's trip last Sunday. A few Brant, Black
Scoters, Brandt's Cormorants and Pacific Loons, along with good
numbers of Common Loons, Black Turnstones and Harlequins everywhere.
One Hutton's Vireo made a brief appearance in the pine trees at the
campground, otherwise not much of interest.

Lily Point produced three woodpeckers: two Flickers, a very bold
Hairy and a brilliantly red Red-breasted Sapsucker. A large (40-50)
flock of Juncos and a similar flock of Pine Siskins were the only
appearance of those species all day; more noticeable by their failure
to appear anywhere in these woods were Raven, Steller's Jay and
Chestnut-backed Chickadee. Two Long-tailed Ducks offshore and a
Cooper's Hawk chasing the Flickers.

A quick trip up Tsawwassen Jetty brought some White-winged Scoters, a
couple of Eurasian Widgeon, and three or four Black Oystercatchers in
the usual place across the road from the Windsurfer Corner pullout
(but no Willet).

Finally, a quick walk around Brunswick Point in search of Short-eared
Owls was disappointing, though one lonely Snow Goose stood out in the
field with a few hundred Mallards.
