Hello fellow Tweeters,
Laura Jordison here, the "new birder on the block." On Feb. 1, I walked
around my neighbourhood to do an informal bird survey. I was pleasantly
surprised, the "birding gods" were smiling on me because I ended up with a
healthy 36 total species! Highlights were: Downy woodpecker, Hairy
Woodpecker, Northern (re-shafted) Flicker, about 6 Bald Eagles (adult &
imm.), about 22 total Trumpeter Swans flew by, Ring-neck Duck, Hooded
Merganser, Common Merganser, Golden-crowned and Ruby-crowned kinglets,
Bewick's Wren, Greater Scaup, Varied Thrush. I was disappointed I did not
see a single Pileated Woodpecker considering there had been 3 in the area
previously. I am going to keep doing this survey at least once a week. Gets
me out and exercising! It took me about 4 hours total.
