Hello Tweeters,

This is my first post to the tweeters listserve. I belong to a number of BC
listserves but have, so far, managed to "miss" this one. Just to tell you a
bit about myself, I am 23 years old, born and raised in Kelowna, BC, in the
Okanagan Valley. I've been birding since the age of 10 and loving every
minute of it. That's enough of that. Now for some bird news.

Kelowna has had some good birds this winter. I went out today with my
younger brother to check up on a few of the local rarities:

Great Gray Owl - We've had one since early Jan. at least along Mission
Creek. Today I discovered that the bird is probably very sick. I walked up
to within 10 ft. of it, took a few pictures and then realized that it wasn't
moving. He was perched on a branch, looking up into the sky and paying no
attention to me. I clapped, waved and squeaked but nothing could make him
look down at me. I called the local wildlife authorities and they may try to
catch and rehab the bird.

Palm Warbler - This bird has been around since Jan. 21st in Waterfront Park.
Today it was sunning itself, with wings spread, tail spread and rump
feathers puffed up. It was also feeding along a wooden boardwalk.

Northern Goshawk - There aren't too many goshawks in the valley bottom, so
finding an imm. at Mission Ck in Kelowna was great. I am doing a big year in
the valley and that put me at 119.
