Yesterday, around noon, I observed a first year Sharp-shinned Hawk perched in
the leafless trees (look like red alder) of the ravine behind by place. I had
never seen a hawk stretch a leg before, but this one did. It stood on one
leg and extended the other straight out in front, then pulled it back and
tucked it snugly under the belly feathers, all the time keeping a roving eye
on the space below it's lofty perch.

I was shortly distracted by a cat (indoors) disaster. When I returned to the
window several minutes later, the hawk was gone and activity among the
regulars was returning to normal, with the addition of two new sightings -
Northern Flicker and a male Downy Woodpecker.
