Just a quick note about the birds around the house today. I live just NE of
Bridle Trails State Park, basically where Kirkland, Remond, and Bellevue meet.
There were well over 100 birds in the yard this morning, with 13 species noted.

Of interest was one SLATE-COLORED JUNCO, the first one seen this winter (we
usually get one each year). There were perhaps 50 Dark-eyed Juncos total.

Also, one DOWNY WOODPECKER, which was starkly black-and-white, presumably one
of the "interior" birds from east of the mountains. Amazingly, this is the
only Downy we've had in the yard all winter! In previous years they have been
daily visitors.

Besides those, it was fun watching several RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH,
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, and PINE SISKIN (many). Three male CALIFORNIA QUAIL
were in the lower pasture.

Then, around 11:30, they all disappeared.

BTW - a couple of weeks ago (during the snow), I reported a male ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRD in the neighborhood. I saw him again on Wednesday afternoon, so it
wasn't just a one-time sighting.
