I reported seeing groundhogs in eastern Washington on Sat. Kelly Cassidy
emailed me that groundhogs don't occur there and they were probably
Yellow-bellied Marmots. She is correct. We saw them in the rocks at the East
end of the Rocky Reach Dam. I hadn't seen marmots at that low an elevation
before and didn't question my partner's call of groundhogs. I should also
have reported that one of the Rough-legged Hawks we saw was a dark morph
female or juvenile.
