Rare Bird Alert Out of Town for GREAT GRAY OWL

Sightings for Tuesday, February 12th

Out of town a GREAT GRAY OWL was found late in the day
in the Ryder Lake area of Chilliwack. The bird was at 47330
Extrom Rd.

Continuing out of town the LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
was again seen at the mouth of Vernon Creek in Okanogan Landing.

Locally there were no reports of the HOARY REDPOLL today.

At the Point Roberts Marina was 1 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE.

>From the end of the White Rock Pier the following birds were reported:
1 EARED GREBE, 1 WESTERN GULL and 1000 PACIFIC LOONS.

At the top of Burnaby Mounatin the 3 PINE GROSBEAKS were again reported.

Sightings for Monday, February 11th

The male HOARY REDPOLL was seen sporadically throughout the
day at Jericho Park. This bird was with 50 COMMON REDPOLLS
on the upper east side of the park. Also here were 2 HUTTON'S VIREOS.

A single COMMON REDPOLL was seen just north-west of the Lougheed Mall.

At the Reifel Refuge the following birds were reported: 2 GREAT HORNED OWLS,
3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and 1 AMERICAN BITTERN

Sightings for Sunday, February 10th

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY was still present in the 1900 block of Routley Ave in
Port Coquitlum.

At Jericho Park today a flock of 100 COMMON REDPOLLS with
3 male HOARY REDPOLLS was located on the north-west side of the
park in Alder Trees beside the soccer field. The birds were viewed at
point blank range before flying off towards the east side of the park.

There was no relocation of a bird believed to be a PHAINOPEPLA.

At the base of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty the WILLET and 4 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS
were reported.

Sightings for Saturday, February 9th

A male HOARY REPOLL was seen with
upwards of 50 COMMON REDPOLLS at Jericho Park today.
Look for this bird on the upper west side of the park in Alder Trees
with PINE SISKINS and AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES.

Out of town a bird believed to be a PHAINOPEPLA was seen on Thursday but
not reported till today. Confirmation is requested. The bird was seen behind
Cultus
Lake in the 1600 block of Columbia Valley Rd. If anyone relocates this bird
please
call the bird alert immediately thank-you!

Continuing out of town a 2nd winter LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was found
yesterday and today at the mouth of Vernon Creek in Okanogan Landing.

Locally at the White Rock Pier an EARED GREBE, 25 BRANT and over 1000
PACIFIC LOONS
were recorded.

In Langley at 208th and Allard Crescent 2 HUTTON'S VIREOS were seen. Nearby
at
Walnut Grove 11 COMMON REDPOLLS were reported.

A field trip to Colony Farm produced 8 RING-NECKED DUCKS and 20 COMMON
REDPOLLS.

The flock of 3 female PINE GROSBEAKS was again reported from the top of
Burnaby Mountain Park.
