As I sat down to breakfast at my B&B on the Esquimalt Lagoon near
Victoria on the morning of Feb 9, eight turkey vultures flew overhead
and landed in the trees and on the lawn next door. I asked the B&B
owner if this was early for them, and he said, indeed, it was.
Together, we hatched a theory: the bald eagles that congregate in
large numbers during the winter at nearby Goldstream Provincial Park
have been departing early because (he said) the plentiful salmon
carcasses from an earlier-than-usual run are already rotting. Hence
the vultures.

Sounds plausible. Thoughts or comments?
