Thursday was a perfect day for 11 East Lake Washington Audubon birders to
enjoy the birds in the Snoqualmie Valley, Fall City to Duvall. We ended the
day with 60 species including 2 Bald Eagles, 19 Red-tailed Hawks, Merlin,
Northern Harrier, deer and 2 river otters. The otter were in seen in the
water along Neal Road where we scoped our second Hermit Thrush. We heard at
least 2 Virginia Rail at the small pond east of Nestle Farms, saw Common
Snipe at Carnation Golf Course along with Varied Thrush and Red-breasted
Sapsucker. Common Ravens were heard and seen over Safeway in Duvall. It was
exciting to see an American Dipper on the Tolt River. We watched it from the
suspension bridge at McDonald Park, Carnation. Following 324th Ave. SE to W.
Snoqualmie Valley Rd., we saw many Western Meadowlarks, calling from the top
of bare trees. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we scoped
Common Redpolls, a lifer bird for several of the participants.
