Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I birded at several locations in coastal WA,with a
return trip to the Schouweiler Rd. wetland west of Elma in Grays Harbor Co.,
with 3 species of swallows, including 2 Violet-green Swallows, 7 Tree
Swallows, and 18 Barn Swallows observed on our way home of birding from
4:20pm-4:35pm. The swallows were all observed foraging well over the main
wetland during a presumed insect burst over the wetland, as the swallows
flew in a rather tight flock for a quality 5 minute observation seperating
the three species. The Violet-green Swallows were our personal firsts for
the year, but the Tree Swallows have increased by 4 birds, with our other
sighting taking place on the 3rd of February, apparently being the first Tree
Swallows of the season in WA. With all the increased swallow sighting
showing up early it is possible other species may occur earlier than normal
such as Cliff and Northern Rough-winged Swallows.

Sincerely,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
