>Cascadia Hummingbird Report 02/18/2002

>Male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS were reported as far north as
Lewis & Clark, just west of Astoria, Clatsop Co., OR by 02/14.
This is the earliest migrant detection ever recorded for Clatsop
Co. (previous earliest record 02/21, mean 03/02). The week was
remarkably warm for February with daytime temperatures in the
mid-50's. This almost certainly contributed to the rapid
northward progress. Rufous Hummingbird densities are still very
low north of Waldport.

Waldport, OR 02-13-2002 44 44.4138 123.9775
South Beach, OR 02-14-2002 45 44.6128 124.0475
Lewis & Clark, OR 02-14-2002 45 46.1473 123.8441

There was also an as yet unconfirmed report from:
Cannon Beach, OR 02-16-2002 47 45.8888 123.9598

In flower news, a few Red-flowering Currants (Ribes sanguineum)
began blooming in a Coos County, OR backyard last week. The stamen
bloom is present on some Hooker Willow (Salix hookeriana) and
Indian Plum (Oemleria cerasiformis) is leafing on the north coast
of Oregon.
