Sighting: N. Mockingbird
Date & Time: 2-20-02, 9:35 to 9:50am
Location: Olympia's eastside
Specifics: First located from alley perched atop a row of bushes behind
the Olympia Transcription Office on State Street between McCormick and
Fir. It had been flushed by people entering/leaving the building. Next,
it flew less than a block south and perched on a utility wire over the
sidewalk in front of 1711 - 4th Ave, remaining for several minutes. Next,
it flew back across 4th Ave atop a low shrub in front of 1706 or 1714
(Continental Hair Design), no more than 30 feet from me. Next stop was a
short, south-facing white picket fence between 1706 and 1714, where it
fed on an exposed fruit or vegetable atop the fence. It appeared THIS MAY
BE A FREQUENT FEEDING SITE. Next, it perched atop the chimney of 1706.
Finally, it flew back across the alley, apparently to the location behind
the Olympia Transcription Office. The bird appeared to have some
difficulty swallowing, but perhaps this is nothing abnormal.

Did not find the mockingbird on 2-19-02, 3 to 3:30pm.
