Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday February 21. If you have anything to add call

On February 17 a bright GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was reported from Oaks
Bottom in Portland near where the REDPOLLS continue to be seen. It could
not be relocated.

On February 16 four GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were at the WalMart Store in
Ontario. The next day a first spring male YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was
south of Ontario in Adrian. In Adrian turn off Highway 201 on to
Washington Street and drive to 5th. Street. The bird was at the brownish
house at the end of 5th. Street.

The BRAMBLING is still at Foley Drive and Lone Pine Road north of Burns,
and the ORCHARD ORIOLES are still coming to the feeders at Oceanview
Drive and Gregary Lane south of Brookings.

Spring migration is now well under way. RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS reached
Astoria February 14, and Eugene February 18. SAY'S PHOEBES are now being
seen on both sides of the Cascades. A TURKEY VULTURE was near Adel
February 16. The first main flight of TREE SWALLOWS reached southern
Oregon February 17. CINNAMON TEAL are also arriving.

During the week a BURROWING OWL was found on the North Spit of Coos Bay.
The SNOW BUNTING is still at the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay, and the
SNOWY OWL continues to be seen at the South Jetty of the Columbia River.
On February 18 three YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were near the Astoria
Airport. A hybrid GREEN-WINGED/EURASIAN TEAL was at the Astoria Sewage
Ponds February 16. That day a WILSON'S WARBLER was seen at Brownsmead.

Also on February 16 another hybrid GREEN-WINGED/EURASIAN TEAL was at the
Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. A flock of WESTERN BLUEBIRDS has spent
the week along the Sandy River in Oxbow Park east of Gresham. The COSTA'S
HUMMINGBIRD continues to be seen in Beaverton.

The GYRFALCON continues to be seen near Perrydale. A SHORT-EARED OWL was
at Ankeny NWR February 19. On February 17 a SNOWY OWL was south of Albany
along Parker Road east of I5. It could not be relocated.

Two BURROWING OWLS are wintering along Blueberry Road west of Halsey. On
February 18 another was found along Davis Road north of there. The
Smithfield Road BURROWING OWL is still being seen.

There are now two MOCKINGBIRDS in Eugene.

On February 14 a small flock of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was found in Bend. On
February 17 a VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW was at Malheur NWR Headquarters. A
flock of 15 REDPOLLS is along the Central Patrol Road near Benson Pond
and there are a couple of SNOW BUNTINGS a few miles east of Burns.

The residents of the small town of Seneca, between Burns and John Day,
are conducting a heavy bird feeding program that is attracting many
birds. On February 16 over 50 CASSIN'S FINCHES were in town.

The wintering birds in northeast Oregon continue to be seen.
