Greetings,

I've posted a summary and map of the late fall and winter observations for
BC on my North American Bird Information Web Site. The vultures have now
made it as far north as Nanaimo.

The web site home page is http://www.islandnet.com/~mgs/birds/

Hi, Tweets

February is a borderline month for turkey vultures. A spring migrant or two
usually sneaks up north plus the overwintering birds perhaps are more
active. Anyway, here is a short update on Northwest vulture doings in
Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.

February 2002 sightings

05 - 1 gliding low aong the highway east of Everett
09 - 8 near the Esquimalt Lagoon near Victoria, B.C.
16 - 1 near Adel, Oregon

Those are specific sightings. There have been quite a few overwintering on
Vancouver Island. As many as 15 may be there with 4-9 birds seen every day
since last December.

Reports from Oregon on the 14th say that the vultures are on their way
north (along with the first main flight of tree swallows).

So, folks, I hope you will look up and watch for el zopilote of the north
(and report them!!). Your reports are always very much appreciated and duly
entered in the files.

Cheers, Diann
