SEABIRD RESEARCH ASSISTANT (1) needed starting approximately April
20, 2002 for a demography study of Common Murres at Yaquina Head,
Oregon. This work is done both in the field at Yaquina Head, and in the
office at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (Newport, OR). Project will
continue to July 31, 2002.

Regular attendance counts, monitoring of nesting phenology and
responses to predators, mapping of colony plots, diet studies, and beach
walks to survey for dead birds, are all part of the deal in this project.
Applicants should have at least 2 years of field experience, a keen sense
of observation, be able to work independently, and write clear and concise
notes. You should also have a valid driver's license AND a sense of
humor!

Collating and entering data in formatted spreadsheets or databases, and
performing biological labwork with supervision, are the main tasks in the
office and lab. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, and
databases is essential.

General attributes we are looking for include the desire to work as part
of a small team, and an ability to work weekends and all daylight hours.
Shared housing may be provided in Newport if the successful applicant is
not a resident.
