Tweeters,
The Falcated Duck was also seen at 4:45pm on the water in the cove at
the base of Samish Island. I walked out the dyke from the west 90
parking lot (go along the fenceline on your right, then to the right at
the dyke) and got nice views of the bird for about 15 minutes. The bird
was seen about 100 yards out by looking through a large opening of the
tall pilings in the water. I did approach two people standing outside of
the first house along the dyke about the possibility of getting closer
to the cove. I didn't want to trespass and was not granted access. They
were quite friendly and somewhat bird knowledgeable (she mentioned
having an Egret on her property). Possibly someone might be able to get
permission to go farther, otherwise if the bird is on the water, the
view from the dyke, or from along the road to Samish Island are your
best options. Good birding.
