My first bird of the year was a female Downy Woodpecker at my suet
feeder, followed by the usual complement of chickadees and juncos. By
the way, I have seen this (or another) female Downy chipping away at my
chickadee nestboxes to enlarge the holes. Is she planning to move in, or
just practicing?
