My wife and I had a little free time so decided to take a lunch and go find
the redpolls on Foster Is. While eating our lunch in the MOHI parking lot,
Brenda Senturia came walking back from the island. She informed us that 50+
redpolls were in birch trees at the NW corner of Foster Island. We had no
trouble finding them. They were high up in the birch trees which was not the
best for viewing with a scope. I looked at a number of them but did not see
any that might have been Hoary Redpolls. Just as we were leaving Foster
Island a flock of 30-40 Pine Siskins flew into some willow bushes right
beside the trail. There were 3-4 redpolls among them which were just above
eye level. We met another gentleman that had seen these as well. We told him
about the big flock on the island, but he said he didn't have time to go
there now as he was due back at work. He introduced himself as Gary (?)
Toffic. He is Greg's brother and just moved out here from New Hampshire about
six months ago.
