A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER has been seen near Twisp, Okanogan Co WA for the
past 3 to 4 weeks. It is essentially visiting 2 sets of feeders, one on
Bulgar and another across the Twisp River in the Horseshoe Community
Trailer Park. To get to the first location, take WA 153 north from Twisp,
then cross the Twisp River and make a left Ainsworth. Go to the 90-degree
turn, turn right onto Bulgar, and go to the 2nd house on the left, number
311. To get to the second location, backtrack across the river and take the
first right onto Twisp Avenue (if you go here first, that would be a left
turn before crossing the Twisp River) with the King Tire Store on the
corner. Turn right onto Magers Street and straight to the trailer park to
site 62. Dave Dunn lives here and feeds the warbler and would be tickled to
death to have you stop by and chat. WA DeLorme 99, B-8.

Two YELLOW-BILLED LOONS are at Oden Bay in Pend Oreille Lake near Sandpoint,
Bonner Co ID according to Earl Chapin. One bird has been present for about 6
weeks and the other for 3 weeks and both can be seen from Sunnyside Road. To
get there from the north end of Sandpoint, take ID 200 toward Montana, at
milepost 35 turn south onto Sunnyside at the Sportsman Access sign. ID
DeLorme 62, BC-3 (Sunnyside heads south from Culver on the map). A better
map and directions are in A Birders' Guide to Idaho p 33-35. Earl also
reports that Sunnyside road is covered with COMMON REDPOLLS, perhaps a
thousand, with HOARIES mixed in as well.

Three SNOW BUNTINGS were with Horned Larks about 4 miles south of Anatone,
Asotin Co WA along WA 129 on 29 Dec according to Keith and Marilyn Carlson.
WA DeLorme 43, CD-7.5.

A SWAMP SPARROW is along Plummer Creek in Heyburn State Park, Benewah Co ID.
First seen on 29 Dec by Judy Waring and Stephen Lindsay, the bird was seen
again on 1 Jan by Matthew Moskwik. ID DeLorme 60, C-1. Plummer Creek is on
the southwest end of Lake Chatcolet.

On Jan 1 just below McNary Dam at Hermiston, Umatilla Co OR was an adult
WESTERN GULL, a juv THAYER'S GULL, a MEW GULL, and a single PACIFIC LOON. At
nearby McNary Park was a single SWAMP SPARROW, 1 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, and
a HERMIT THRUSH according to Craig and Judy Corder.

A male WESTERN TANAGER, a first ever winter record for Idaho, is eating
apples behind the Osprey Inn in Harrison, Benewah Co ID. Matthew Moskwik
found the bird on 1 Jan and it was seen again the next day by Shirley Sturts
and Lisa Hardy. The Osprey Inn is along ID 97 on the north end of town. ID
DeLorme 60, CD-1.

An immature SNOWY OWL was seen 1 Jan on the Rathdrum Prairie, north end of
Post Falls, Kootenai County, ID by Stephen Lindsay. At dusk it was sitting
in a field at the SE corner of Idaho St and Prairie Ave, best seen from the
intersection of Idaho and Tiger, looking to the NE, at the crest of the rise
in the field. Tiger is several streets south of Prairie Ave., at the north
end of Post Falls. ID DeLorme 60, AB-1.

A PRAIRIE FALCON and a MERLIN were at the Port of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID
on 29 Dec. Dave Holick and I watched as they hunted Rock Dove at the grain
terminal on the river. Rick Welle reports 3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS are among the
waterfowl on the river near the grain towers as well. The river can be
scanned from either of the first two parking lots on the west end of the US
12 bypass around downtown Lewiston. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.
