Boy! Have I got egg (chicken, NOT goose) on my face. Sorry for the redundancy of my "directions" request. I blame not having read Tweeters postings since Dec. 31 on having to entertain fly-in relatives during the holidays. Thanks to great directions from R. Gelotte we found the park and "Stumpy" with ease. The 3 Eurasians were an added treat. May add this as a stop to our infrequent trips to the Angeles area (too many places, too little time) which usually includes the spit where, seen this after-noon; about a dozen Great Blues were reposing together on a float of new logs, several Loons and Red Necked Grebes plus 3 drake and one hen Harlequin ducks and a half doz. Black Turnstones on a distant log (one of which came to "our" shore when they inexplicably flushed) were notable, plus, for us, the high-lite, a trio of Sanderlings trying to pack-in calories for the chilly night with one of them exercising its perceived "right" to the 5 ft. square patch of stones in which were several legs and a big claw of a former crab. I'm endlessly delighted watching a bully Sanderling raise its back hackles, lower its head and attack its beach compatriots. After the mini-charges ended and the three had regrouped to saunter on down the stony beach into the darkness, their snowy white plumage slowly dimming to grey seemed to add a nice period(.) to the end of another story in our big book of birding.
