.... and other matters:
My mother saw a Townsend's Warbler in her yard this morning (Saturday,
1/5), across from Crown Park on Division Street in Camas, WA.
Here in Ketchikan, my neighbors saw a Bald Eagle nail -- and subsequently
consume -- a hovering Belted Kingfisher on New Year's Day.
Naturally, I was in Camas when the excitement was happening in Ketchikan,
and in Ketchikan when the warbler appeared in Camas.
I also want to report that World Explorer Cruises is offering a special
birding cruise this year, starting in Vancouver, BC, on June 11 and ending
in Vancouver on June 25. According to the news article in our Ketchikan
paper, it will have "10 scheduled shops including Ketchikan, [and] will
provide lectures and shore trips which focus on birds of Southeast Alaska."
