Hello Tweets,

The "mystery" sapsucker near Kent along 287th Street(accessed from West
Valley Highway)was relocated this morning at 7:58am, and observed for
several minutes in the apple trees and in a conifer tree feeding on it's sap
holes. Upon our arrival at 8:30am the bird was NOT seen, but Ryan Shaw and
his birding friend felt confident to the identification of it being a
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, which truly seems most likely for ALL situations
including the call heard, with 1-2 Red-breasted Sapsuckers nearby. Although
my mother and I were unable to see the bird during our visit from
8:30am-9:30am, we strongly suspect the bird to be a "pure" species. A few
additional birds that were located nearby north of the sapsucker location
along West Valley Highway(specifically in a flooded field north of S 285th
Street)included:

3 Eurasian Wigeons(2 males, 1 female)
1 Eurasian/American Wigeon hybrid
good numbers of American Wigeons, Northern Pintails, Green-winged Teal, and
lesser numbers of Northern Shovelers
7 Long-billed Dowitchers

Good birding,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
