Tweeters,
Took a group of High School students to Reifle Wildlife Refuge yesterday
and was shocked to see no owls at all. I can't remember the last time
there were 0. The Saw-whets have been almost non-existant. Last year
also seemed like a down year for the Saw-whets. Is the presence of
Barred Owl contributing to this? Or in the case yesterday, the fear of
possible Barred's.
There was a Northern Goshawk seen in the distant trees from the bend in
the trail along the east dike as it heads to the observation tower.
Also, at 64th St. in Boundary Bay, a gray phased Gyr was about 1/4 mile
to the south of the parking area at the end of 64th on the right hand
side.
