The following list of birds was observed at Point Roberts, Whatcom
County, Washington on January 2, 2002 between 1:30 and 4:30 P.M.
Strong southeasterly winds interfered significantly with birding;
offshore waters were rough and visibility of seabirds was poor, and
landbirds were quiet and hard to find in the windy conditions. The
list of 41 species was 10 or 15 less than what would be expected in
calm conditions.

Areas covered were Lighthouse Marine Park, Edwards Drive, Pauls Road,
Lily Point, and Maple Beach. The only mildly unusual species was an
adult WESTERN GULL seen on the beach at Lighthouse Marine Park.

In addition to the birds observed, a black-phase EASTERN GRAY
SQUIRREL was noted on Pauls Road.
