Raptor Identification & Appreciation
Instructor: Jim Flynn, SAS Master Birder.
Jim has been birding in Washington for over 20 years. Also a member of
Rainier Audubon Society, Jim wrote the bird sightings column for Rainier for
5 years, taught their first Shorebird ID course and has led numerous field
trips all over the state.

Join us for this class that will cover the ID and basic biology of
Washington's 20 regular and rare raptor species. This class should be of
interest to intermediate and beginning birders alike. Two class sessions
will cover ID, feeding behaviors, breeding biology, winter territoriality,
and more. The field trip will give students a chance to take the
identification concepts afield and to observe and discuss raptor behavior.

Class sessions: Thursday, February 7th and Wednesday, February 13th
Class location: Center for Urban Horticulture, Douglas Classroom
Time: 7-9:30 PM
Field Trip: Saturday, February 23rd, Skagit and Samish flats; all day trip
Cost: $65 members, $80 non-members


It's Lovely Weather for Ducks... Loons...& Grebes: Seabird Seminar and
Ferry Outing
Instructor: Brian Bell, SAS Master Birder
Here's a beginning level seabird seminar and field trip for birders who want
to know more about what's out there on our Puget Sound waters.
We will gather Friday evening for a two-hour session covering basic birding
techniques and review of some of the interesting species we are likely to
see. The next morning we'll be birding from the Fauntleroy ferry en route to
and from Vashon Island and Point Southworth. Grebes, scoters, cormorants,
loons, auklets, guillemots and many more species are likely.

Class: Friday, March 1, 2002, 7:00 PM-9:00PM, Center for Urban Horticulture
(Douglas Classroom).
Field trip: Saturday, March 2

Cost: Fee is $35 for SAS members, $50 for nonmembers. Bring money Saturday
morning for ferry fare.
