I finally made it into Oregon to see the Costa's Hummingbird and the Black-Crowned Night Herons.

The Costa's Hummingbird was quite cooperative. He flew circles around the cul-de-sac and landed in the same 3 areas for the half hour I watched him. Thanks to a nieghbor for his warm welcome.

I was also impressed with the Black-Crowned Night Herons on Marine Drive- I don't know how many times I stood there saying "Wow!". However, I didn't see 13 Night Herons- I saw 12 Night Herons and a GBH roosting in the trees.

Things I briefly looked for but didn't find were: the Steel Bridge Glaucous Gull, the PDX Horned Larks, and the NE Portland Mockingbird (my second try). Maybe tomorrow I will go to Mt Tabor for the Red Crossbills.

The Costa's and the Night Heron were life birds for me. Thanks to all who provided information to help me find them.

As a side note, I also went to Captian's Nautical Supply in Portland today. For those of you who have not been there in a while, they have moved to 333 Broadway (five blocks from their old location). You won't need to 'plug the meter' as they have their own parking now.
