Subject: Skookumchuck to Big Hanaford

Jim Pruske and I exlpored birding areas along Skookumchuck Dr., Tono
Rd., and Big Hanaford Rd. We started with Skookumchuck Dr., going to the
fish hatchery at the end of the road. We then back tracked our way to
Tono where we checked the sediment ponds out on Tono Rd. Then we went to
the end of Big Hanaford Rd., and ending the day at the wetlands by the
Chehalis Steam Plant. (The same wetlands that Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
bird all the time).

In route on Old Hwy. 99 (at Dan Dar Farm)
American Kestrel (female) - 1

Skookumchuck Dr.
Amercian Wigeon 45+
Green Winged Teal 12
Red Crossbill 30+
Cooper's Hawk (immature) - 1
American Kestrel - 2 (1 male - 1 female)
Red Tailed Hawk - 5 (1 very tame at the fish hatchery)
Varied Thrush - 6
American Dipper - 4 (at the fish hatchery)
Hairy Woodpecker - 1 (at the fish hatchery)
Red Breasted Sapsucker - 1
Fox Sparrow 5

Tono Rd. at the sediment ponds
Red Tailed Hawk - 2
Merlin - 1
Ring Necked Duck - 4

Big Hanaford Rd.
Eurasian Wigeon - 3 males (in a pond at the end of the road)
Green Winged Teal - 8
Red Breasted Sapsucker - 1
American Kestrel - 1 female
White Tailed Kite - 1 (in the field hunting near the Tono Rd. junction)
Red Tailed Hawk - 3
Canvasback - 2 (in a pond next to the steam plant)
Lesser Scaup - 6
Hooded Merganser - 9
Ring Necked Duck - 18
Fox Sparrow - 8
Dunlin 30+

Elk - 26 (in the field at the end of the road)
