Kelly & All,

Well, I'm no expert, but I did have a close encounter with a white phase gyrfalcon along Wenas ridge above Eagle Nest west of Yakima (elevation about 5,800 ft.) on November 13, 1987 and I'm pretty sure that if you'd removed all the snow present at the time that the terrain would have been alpine meadow-like anyway.

The worst government is the most moral. One composed of cynics is often very tolerant and human.
But when fanatics are on top there is no limit to oppression.

Does anyone know if Gyrfalcons wintering in Washington stay in the lowlands, or do they also occur in open subalpine meadows?
