I read about all the wintering songbirds (hermit thrush, hummingbirds,
warblers) in the Puget Sound area, but never see them.

Finally, this afternoon a Hermit Thrush was sighted at my daughter's house
just north of Stanwood.

This morning we took 4 middle school Science Team members birding around the
Stanwood area for a couple hours. They are beginners, so we were birding at
a beginning level, but saw 44 species. Highlights were PEREGRINE FALCON on
top of the Hamilton Lumber smokestack. It had at least one band visible and
may very well be the second year bird from Seattle: a very cooperative
COOPER'S HAWK on Thomle Road: a LONG-TAILED DUCK still present in the first
small pond at the sewer ponds: and 2 AMERICAN KESTRELS. NO Mockingbird on
Thomle Road.
