Today Larry and Jacque Goodhew of Walla Walla, and my mother and I birded
portions of Grays Harbor and Pacific Co. starting from Tokeland north to
Westport, then east to the Hoquim STP, and ending the day along Brady Loop
Rd., despite the heavy,fierce northerly winds combined with on/off rain
showers and partial clearing at times throughout the day. We encountered
several highlights including the adult female BAR-TAILED GODWIT, which is
still present at the Tokeland Marina amongst a large group of Marbled
Godwits.During our visit to Tokeland we also were joined by Marv Breece and
Mark Houston, who also observed the Bar-tailed Godwit and a few other nearby
species during their visit. Other highlights during the day en route
included a RUDDY TURNSTONE(being a quality bird for January in coastal
WA)amongst a flock of "rockbirds" at Westport, with excellent views of four
species of "rockbirds" visible in one viewing,at times. A fairly extensive
walk along the beach shoreline south of Midway Beach Rd. produced little
activity, but upon returning to our vehicles a flock of 24 Snowy Plovers was
located roosting in loose straw and beach debris on the upper beach
immediately north of the Midway Beach Rd. beach access. A list of our most
