My group was burgled in Maicatia, Venezuela the night before returning to
the US after two weeks of birding. The car was parked for a few minutes in
the hotel's "secure" parking area while we checked in. Nearly everything
was taken including cameras and a Kowa scope. Like all good birders we still
had our bins around our necks!

The home owners' insurance of our two parties covered everything without a
single problem. My total loss was about $2500.

I intend to call my insurance person this coming week, but it's always nice
to get info/opinions from folks in Tweeterland, so...

How many of you insure your binos/scopes under a personal articles policy,
or do you trust your homeowners/auto insurance and hope for the best??? It
occurred to me that it'd be a real drag and extremely expensive to have to
buy new equipment if my home/car were broken into.

TIA,
