I spent about an hour near Smith Cove Park this afternoon, braving the wind
and a scary-looking guy who kept walking back and forth nearby. Not all
that many birds, but they were quality birds! Red-breasted Merganser (2
pair and 4-5 unattached females), Barrow's Goldeneye (1 pair and 1
unattached male), and a male Harlequin Duck. I was able to scope the HADU
for about 15 minutes, watching him preen while he was out of the water,
perched on a rock. It was a real treat. Amazing colors!
