I just heard from a friend in England, who says they also are having a
massive invasion of Common Redpolls this winter. (I think the repoll
subspecies most commonly found in England has been split from ours recently
by the BOU; I'm not clear on the taxonomy.) Coincidence, or some Holarctic
thing going on? Is the eastern US getting redpolls this winter, too?
