Dear Tweeters,

I read with interest the posts on insurance of birding gear. An alternative arrangement has served me.

Although my wife will probably not remember the conversation, about a year ago we discussed the possibility of purchasing insurance to cover our stuff while travelling abroad. Not owning a home at the moment, we were not covered for loss or theft of chattel. The cost of such a special policy seemed rather high, but I was willing to purchase one to be on the safe side. My wife thought it a waste of money. We came up with an agreement: I would be "careful" with my gear. If it got stolen, I could feel to buy newer, better binoculars, telescope, and so forth.

Fortunately (?) nobody has stolen my stuff yet.

Yours in the Risk Pool,
