Shively Park Transect, Astoria, Clatsop County, Oregon
January 27, 2002, 1000-1045hr

We have about 2 inches of wet slushy snow on the ground.

I took a walk to Shively Park after building a snowpig in
the front yard with Michelle. Most noteable was the adult
BALD EAGLE that came flying through below the treetops at
Shively Park carrying a big stick.

There are at least two ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS at the well
kept feeders down the block. This is were a pair most
probably bred last season (in the big holly across from
the feeders).

Birds seen (in taxonomic order):

Bald Eagle 1 [1]
Red-tailed Hawk 1
Anna's Hummingbird 2 [2]
Hutton's Vireo 1
Steller's Jay 3
Western Scrub-Jay 1
Chestnut-backed Chickadee 12
Brown Creeper 1
Winter Wren 4
Golden-crowned Kinglet 30
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3
American Robin 4
Varied Thrush 1
European Starling 2
Fox Sparrow 2
Song Sparrow 1
Dark-eyed Junco 1
House Sparrow 2

Footnotes:

[1] carrying a stick from below the treetops at the park.
[2] both at the feeder down the block

Total number of species seen: 18
