Tweeters,

A reminder to all: the discussion of cats has been banned for years on
TWEETERS, because of the inevitable controversy that develops between
cat-lovers and cat-haters. Clearly, this debate has already begun
today.

If you are fairly new to TWEETERS, or have not posted to the group
before, please check the "Posting Guidelines", available on the Web at
http://www.scn.org/earth/tweeters/guidelines.html . Among other
things, you will find a section called "Avoiding Inappropriate
Topics". These topics include:

-- posts not related to birds, birding, and the natural world
-- shade-grown coffee
-- cats (pro or con)
-- hunting (pro or con)
-- religion (including creationism vs. evolution)

As the guidelines state, "Posts on such topics all too often provoke
unenlightened "debate" of a purely adversarial nature, and sometimes
degenerate into personal attacks couched in terms and language
offensive to the whole list. Therefore, these topics lie outside the
Tweeters charter and are strongly discouraged".

Please, let's all adhere to these guidelines. The only reason I can
imagine that our listowner, Dan Victor, has not reminded us of this is
that he hasn't been following the postings for the last few hours.
