Hello Blake and tweeters,
I been not posting any opinion of mine about cats on to tweeters, because i
know it is of limit, and this can realy going out of hands. But it's been well
known that we are loosing way to many birds ,because of to many cats
around.I get the Living birds what been put out from Cornell Lab of
Ornithology. With every issue you get " BIRDSCOPE".News and Views from
Sapsucker Woods. There is always the issues of cats killing so many of our
birds.I must say ,i know birders there dont feed ,because there have a
cat,and than i know birders there feed birds, but there owe a cat and it is
trained to stay inside. What ever it is,i believe we as birders dont hate
cats in general, but if you see a cat eating an Evening Grosbeak or a
beautiful male Golden-crowned Kinglet you do get upset.I have a weir guard
around my dripping water,so i pevent that i dont loose a bird splashing and
having fun in the birdbath. On all my feeders what i have hanging from trees
i also have guards,so if the Squirls or cat intend to get to our tubfeeder
there will fall of.We had one Squirl what i chased of my patio, jumping down,
he killed himself.I am so lucky my neighbor behind me moved away with all
her four cats, and my other neighbor next door is also moving there have
three cats,so maybe i will get neighbors what dont have any,but this is
wishful thinking.
As i always say,i enjoying my yardbirds this the same if not more, because i
can watch there behavier and there always comming back for more feed.We do
chase rare birds for me manly to taking photos for documentation.Even so i
dont participate in this i think it is for great interest to make a county
list,so we know how rare or special some birds are in some countys.
To let you know about my Hutton's Vireo on the suet, he still comes evey
day.And we had few visiter also.Seeing this species so close is a privilege
what i certainly will cherish.
I hope this message can be accepted using the name cat, and i hope no one
will mention this Cat discussion .
I am verry appreciate about tweeers, because when i am in the field and i
talk, birders right away come and greet me friendly to say there so glad to
meet me and tell me how much there like to read my experience in the field.I
want to all let you know the trip reports are done by my Son Patrick, what
spots most all the birds before me.I having what you call a slow eye.But it
dont bother me having this handycap,i still enjoy getting out in to nature.

I would have to disagree with what people are saying about keeping this
forum off the topic of starlings and cats etc. It involves birds and they're
very serious issues that deal with the LIFE of birds. It's amazing to me
that people want to keep this a 'bird watching' forum or email site, but yet
never post. I do all the time about merlins in my area and stuff and get no
response. No one is willing to post about their birding experience but
they'll jump to the gun when starlings or cats are mentioned. Ruth Sullivan
(I hope I spelled your last name correct) and others like her deserve full
credit. I enjoy reading their adventures. Keep it up. I don't know how many
of you are on the garden web birding forum, but I mentioned ways of getting
rid of h. sparrows around feeders-one- changing seed and feeders etc. and
the other, killing them through trapping and so on. I was removed and can't
post any more because some WOOSY birders couldn't stand the thought of
killing those nasty S&S. The webmaster said it wasn't on the topic, well, it
was. It dealt with keeping your birds happy and keeping the wrong birds out!
Just like purple martin and bluebird and other cavity nester landlords do.
It's ridiculous. Over something like that. Lets not get too personal about
issues that may not be actual bird watching, and get people kicked off,
perfectly normal nice caring birders like me kicked off for SPEAKING THE
TRUTH! Although, creationism and evolution should be left out because it
deals with religion, and nothing with birds at all. My 2 cents, hope it
doesn't offend anyone, if it does, lets talk. Won't hurt. :-)
