Thought I would check in to mention that Natalie and I had a good weekend
birding in a variety of locations in Eastern Washington last weekend.
Probably the best birding of the trip was at our next-to-last stop at the
Potholes Wildlife Area on the north side of the Potholes Reservoir. Among
the highlights, besides the wild sounds from the Great Egret, Great Blue
Heron and Black-crowned Night Heron rookery along the western-most gravel
road, were a large group of 26 White Pelicans flying overhead, a trio of
Black-necked Stilt, a trio of Black Terns mixed in with the Caspian and
Forster's terns, and a Greater Yellowlegs all by itself at the far end of
the road.

It was windy in the Columbia Basin last weekend, but we still managed to
dig out more than 60 species between the basin and a jaunt up Taneum
Canyon on the way over.

Somehow we resisted the urge to dash to Southeast Washington...saving
that for a trip or two later this month.
