I wanted to share some photos with you of my close encounter with a Great
Blue Heron.

Yesterday, while doing some yard work, this Heron landed on our dock, where
apparently, the fishing is good. Normally, herons are so skittish, they will
fly off the moment they hear a footstep, or see you off in the distance. But
this one was so intent on fishing that she just kept right on doing what she
was doing, while keeping one eye on me. I got so close, that one more step
and I would have been in the lake. Incredibly, I managed to leave my position
four times to go and reload the camera. Each time I was sure that when I
tried to get close again, she would fly off. So I was always prepared to
"grip & rip" to get photos of her flying. But she was rock steady, and never
did fly off. I gave up before she did. In all, I managed to get 116 shots.
Many are good, 10 or so are fantastic.

Happy 4th, everyone,
