Hi. All, We just returned from a week trip to, Russia. and
wanted to comment on some things we saw.
>From Seattle to Russia we were lucky to get a window seat near the
rear of the plane. The weather was clear for most of the way over
Canada and Greenland. Our route took us up over the Northwest
Territories north of the Hudsons Bay across Baffin Island and central
Greenland
Many of you have stated that the fall migration seems to have
started. It surprize us as the land north of Yellowknife is still
nearly covered in ice and snow.
Tom Nelson (OBOL) reported that summer seemed a bit late at
Churchill. To look at the amount of snow in the far north one
wonders where the birds nested. The lake and rivers were for the most
part frozen over still.
Of interest also was the shores of eastern Greenland that seemed to
have far more land showing then we have seen before.
One would think the birds would still be going north looking for
a nest site , or did they just turn around and come back do to snow
and ice?
