I spent a couple days wandering around on east slope of the Cascades. My
target bird was the Black-backed Woodpecker that Rachel Lawson reported at
the FR 1600 burn a few days ago, but I was also happy to pick up a
White-headed Woodpecker a the same location and a Red-naped Sapsucker at
Camas Creek while taking a "short-cut" back to Seattle. I 'm still probably
the only person in the state who hasn't seen the Blue-Gray Gnat catcher at
Hardy Canyon:>). The warm sunny weather, wild flowers and butterflies were a
wonderful plus everywhere on the east side.
