This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Saturday July 6th, evening
update sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver
and
North Vancouver.

Featured bird is WESTERN SANDPIPER

There was no relocation of the CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR on
Friday or Saturday and it appears to have left the area.

Sightings for Saturday, July 6th

At the base of the Roberts Bank Coal Port Jetty at high tide were
5000+ WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 23 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS &
13 LEAST SANDPIPERS. Nearby at the Compensation Lagoon near the
tip of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty were 2 WHIMBREL & 2 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS.

At Beach Grove Lagoon were 15 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS
and 1 PEREGRINE FALCON.

Friday, July 5th

At the Tsawwassen Compensation Lagoon were 1 WHIMBREL and 1 baby
BLACK OYSTERCATCHER. Nearby at the base of the Roberts
Bank Coal Port Jetty were 2500 WESTERN SANDPIPERS,
100 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 50 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS. Working the area was an adult PEREGRINE FALCON.

At Rocky Point Park in Port Coquitlum were 3 PURPLE MARTINS.

Thursday, July 4th

A male breeding plumaged CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR has been present since
July 1st in a pasture field outside of Clearwater BC. This bird has vacated
the area.

Locally a singing LEAST FLYCATCHER was found south of Vye Rd on
Whatcom Rd 1.4km down in the Abbotsford area.

At Colony Farm up 7 male LAZULI BUNTINGS were found singing on
terrritory.
