Ian and Tweeters,

Here's a few songs with "bird" or a specific kind of bird in the
title:

Yellow Bird-- Arthur Lyman Group (1961)
Is a Bluebird Blue-- Conway Twitty (1960)
Birdland-- Chubby Checker (1963)
Bye Bye Bird-- Moody Blues (1966)
Surfin' Bird-- Trashmen (1964)
Bird Dance Beat-- Trashmen (1964)
Do the Bird-- Dee Dee Sharp (1963)
Bird on a Wire-- Aaron Neville (year?)
The Birds and the Bees-- Jewel Akens (1965)
The Birds are for the Bees-- Newbeats (1965)

The Bird's the Word-- Rivingtons (1963)
This Little Bird-- Marianne Faithfull (1965)

& James Taylor (1974)
Do the Funky Chicken-- Rufus Thomas (1970)
Do the Funky Penguin, Part 1-- Rufus Thomas (1971)
Sweet Bird of Youth-- Nat King Cole (1959)

Blue Jay Way-- Beatles (1967)
And Your Bird Can Sing-- Beatles (1966)
Free As a Bird-- Beatles (1995)
Free Bird-- Lynyrd Skynyrd (1974)
Hummingbird-- Seals & Crofts (1973)
Tennessee Bird Walk-- Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan (1970)
Chicken, Baby, Chicken-- Tony Harris (1957)
Albatross- Fleetwood Mac (1969)
The Bird-- Jerry Reed (1982)
The Bird-- George Jones (1988)
Where the Stars and the Stripes and the Eagle Fly-- Aaron Tippin
(2001)
Chicken Feed-- Bent Fabric (1963)
Chicken Strut-- Meters (1970)

This list was not compiled from an exhaustive search-- it was titles I
could remember in about 20 minutes (with a bit of help from Joel
Whitburn's books). However, since your question combined two of my
main interests, birds and popular music, I couldn't resist the
temptation to respond.

Of course, not all these songs are ABOUT birds. Some of them are about
dances named after birds (e.g. The Duck, Do The Bird, Do the Funky
Chicken, etc.). Not all of them are rock songs either-- the list
includes easy listening, country, R&B, etc. I'm afraid the list also
betrays my age (ooops!).

Anyway, Ian, see what a can of worms you've opened? (Or should that be
a can of eggs?)
