Now is the time of year to look for returning hummingbirds and shorebirds.

On June 23, Mike & Mary Lilga observed a TURKEY VULTURE near Desert Aire.

Jim & Annet Dittmer had a male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD on June 27 in their
Kennewick yard.

Dennis Johnson has a pair of NORTHERN BOBWHITE in his Richland neighborhood
near Birch & Hartford Streets. The male has a pink band supporting the
assumption that these are released birds.

On July 2, Nancy LaFramboise and Chris Simonen checked the ponds behind
Iowa Beef near Wallula. There were 150 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, several
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 1 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, a PEREGRINE FALCON and a
SNOWY EGRET. During a return trip that evening, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise
and Mike and MerryLynn Denny also saw a BONAPARTE'S GULL and a WHITE-FACED
IBIS. The peregrine and egret were not relocated.

Jack and Murrel Dawson observed a family of 4 FERRUGINOUS HAWKS near their
Benton City home on July 6.

Ron and Carole Louderback birded along Government Mountain Road from
Milton-Freewater, Oregon on July 6. Although this is distant, the
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER they reported among other expected Blue Mountain
birds is noteworthy.

Also on July 6, Bob Woodley observed a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH and RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRD in his Richland yard.

Mary Lilga reported 2 BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES near Harris and Saint Streets
in Richland on July 9.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.
