Michael and family are gone to Shi Shi Beach this week so I stood in for
him. Nine other people joined me this morning for a perfect summer
morning at Marymoor. Sunny, nice temperature and while the bird activity
is starting to slow down it was a good morning. We saw and heard 46
species in all with excellent views of Great Blue Heron, three Green
Heron (adult and immature), a female Wood Duck with four young, a pair
of Hooded Mergansers at the Rowing Club pond (male in eclipse), an
Osprey which flew directly overhead, a Spotted Sandpiper along the
river, a Ring-billed Gull at Lake Sammamish (somewhat unusual for this
time of year), at least five Belted Kingfishers including 3 immatures,
an immature Red-eyed Vireo, (much wing fluttering), a very accomodating
Swainson's Thrush posing in the open and singing, and many Black-headed
Grosbeaks.
