I live on Capitol Hill in Seattle, and I saw a nighthawk in August last year flying around for about 5 minutes before it took off for parts unknown. Just the one sighting up here in 15+ years, but I too miss them from my youth. Viewed nighthawks frequently in the Tri-Cities, WA in 70's-80's.
