Carol & Tweeters:
>From "The Birds of North America, No75,1993 Cooper's Hawk", the
following regarding eye color: iris. Bluish-gray in fledglings,
increasingly replaced by yellow in immatures..... yellow or light orange
in yearlings progressively to darker shades of orange and red with age,
males averaging darker than females of same age, and detectable change
ceasing at about 5 yr of age."

I have a pair of Cooper's Hawks nesting in the woodlot behind my house.
In the early morning and late evening I frequently hear the "kek-kek-kek"
call. There was whitewash under the nest tree last weekend when I
checked, but i thought I had at least one fledgling calling from beyond
the nest tree.

There is also a Sharp-shinned nest with several fledglings out at the
south end of the Island. The young call constantly.
