Ian and Tweeters,

Birding doldrums indeed! The southward movement of adult shorebirds is
at its peak right now, although it does not produce as many rarities
as the migration of juveniles which peaks in August and September.
Anyone who is bored should consider picking a favorite area and doing
organized shorebird counts once a week-- you might be amazed at what
you would find. Failing that, a weekend retreat to Grays Harbor or
Ocean Shores would produce good birding and relief from the heat,
whenever that becomes a problem.
