Hear, hear. I never knew one could get bored watching birds. If you're not watching to see new and exciting species, do you ever watch just to see incredible and interesting behaviours? I mean, babies are fledging, and baby birds are great fun to watch! Maybe one could read up on the species they have seen and learn more about them. Or, read up on species you haven't seen, so maybe you'll have a better chance at viewing them next year? Or maybe volunteer some time to People For Puget Sound or Seattle Audubon (or any other conservation/restoration agency) to watch birds at restored areas, or maybe even to lend some sweat equity to a restoration site that needs help. There are way too many things to do out there to get "bored" and to consider fledging times as "the doldrums". I don't mean to sound like one of the snooty fuddy-duddies that post on here (you know who you are), but a little imagination can take you far away from your doldrums!

Birding doldrums indeed! The southward movement of adult shorebirds is
at its peak right now, although it does not produce as many rarities
as the migration of juveniles which peaks in August and September.
Anyone who is bored should consider picking a favorite area and doing
organized shorebird counts once a week-- you might be amazed at what
you would find. Failing that, a weekend retreat to Grays Harbor or
Ocean Shores would produce good birding and relief from the heat,
whenever that becomes a problem.
