Someone's pulling our leg.
There's no such thing as a birding doldrum.
Doldrums became extinct about 60 million years ago, if I remember
correctly.
I could be wrong, as I've been out birding so much
that my brain is addled with what I've seen lately.

Still some nesters, lots of juveniles of many species,
apparent "let's try for a second brood" feather brains, and
watch very very carefully:
There are individual birds sneaking around with the groups,
hoping we don't see them.
The occasional flycatcher, warbler or vireo not heard, but seen,
if you're fast enough.
